SAGITTARIUS FULL MOON – GANESHA GATEWAY
by Maya White
Ganesha is not just about play; this statue from the 1600’s shows the fierceness required to really remove obstacles.
Ganesha is one of the best-known Hindu deities. Widely revered as the remover of obstacles, he is also the guardian of writers, travelers, commerce, and especially, new projects.
Like Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, this month has some amazing planetary action that will assist you in moving past anything that has been holding you back.
Dramatically, Jupiter and Uranus form a long-lasting trine on June 22nd , in perfect timing with the Summer Solstice of June 21st.
I like to think of Jupiter trine Uranus as the ‘Universal Citizen’ gateway. Jupiter activates your spirit of self-determination and Uranus lights up your genius.
Then, as you become more powerful in your own life, you correspondingly make the planet a better place.
This trine in combination with the other planetary action this month signals an auspicious invitation to begin your journey, one step, one day at a time. June is a great month to begin new projects, especially after the New Moon of June 16th.
Wonderfully, the full moon of June 2nd ignites this fire trine early in the month. Each lunar cycle delivers a gift, and on Tuesday, June 2nd the moon ripens full in the sign of Sagittarius – the Archer. A mutable fire sign, Sagittarius is where the zodiac teaches you to connect with hope and experience well-being.
Fire is the element of spirit and vitality; it ignites passion and provides a spark for your creation.
One of the symbols for Sagittarius is the rainbow, a natural wonder that represents all four elements of western astrology. Who does not love the rainbow, an arc of water filtered through air?
Landing on the earth, a rainbow further summons our inspiration and connection to Spirit, which invokes the element of fire.
This month begins and ends with planetary support to move beyond obstacles. June also ends with the moon again in Sagittarius and forming a supportive trine to Uranus, Venus, and Jupiter, all on the 30th.
I learned something quite interesting about Ganesha last November when I visited one of the historic museums in Nepal. Most modern day depictions of him show a happy faced youth, dancing and looking mildly amused. To me, they always looked a bit clownish and watered down.
But, when I saw the statues of Ganesha from the 1600’s, his look was very different. Early images of Ganesha show him as being more powerful, not a happy, mindless dancing boy. Seeing these early depictions gave me an entirely new perspective. The real Ganesha, remover of obstacles, has fire in his eyes, working tusks, and elephant strength in his belly. He’s smart, strategic, wise, kind, and agile. This is what you need to get the job done. Ganesha teaches and, I believe, assists.
To remove obstacles you must be fierce yet obedient, and committed to a path that often requires strength combined with the discipline. You must be willing to move a mountain. But, stepping beyond anything holding you back is the promise of this Ganesha Full Moon.
In this world of duality, every shining Light has a shadow, and lack of discipline and complacency are the dark sides of Jupiter and Uranus stirred up in fire. When things are rolling so well, when life is easy, sometimes it just doesn’t seem relevant to buckle down. There’s always tomorrow, right?
Actually, there are only 30 days in June; use them wisely. . .
