In 1983, Winfrey relocated to Chicago to host WLS-TV's low-rated half-hour morning talk show, AM Chicago. The first episode aired on January 2, 1984. Within months after Winfrey took over, the show went from last place in the ratings to overtaking Donahue as the highest rated talk show in Chicago. And so began her journey to becoming the icon of The Oprah Winfrey Show and today the most listened to and respected voice in the world. No one could have predicted the revolution that transpired for woman most specifically. And so began all of our journeys of growth, change, and now transformation. Her followers became a community that grew together and found themselves talking about it with others whenever the opportunity would arise. " Did you see Oprah yesterday?" We discovered as women that there was a power in the divine feminine that when we opened up and shared our story we were actually healing each other.
Hosting shows on topics such as heart disease, geopolitics, spirituality and meditation, interviewing celebrities on social issues they were directly involved with, such as cancer, charity work, and substance abuse. On a daily basis Oprah took her audience to a place of teaching, healing, self love, and learning to honor themselves. Healing within themselves that began their road to owning their power and transforming themselves as she opened our awareness to live our best life.
Oprah's most significant role has become that of an influential spiritual leader. In 2008, she endorsed author and spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle and his book, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, which sold several million extra copies after being selected for her book club. During a Webinar class, in which she promoted the book, Winfrey stated "God is a feeling experience and not a believing experience. If your religion is a believing experience ... then that's not truly God."
With the creation of the OWN Network Oprah is now taking her audience to a place of a higher conscious awareness. Forever evolving to an inner knowing to our all powerful source within us. Opening the awareness of people all over the world. Opening the world to our ability to create for ourselves the lives we so desire by tapping into and living our purpose.
And so begins the great change in society. Thank you Oprah for having the courage to follow your purpose.
In Oprah's words...What I know for sure...
“As you read about all the lessons I’ve struggled with . . . my hope is that you’ll begin to ask yourself the very same question Gene Siskel asked me all those years ago. I know what you’ll find along the way will be fantastic, because what you’ll find will be yourself.”
“I’m working on not letting people with dark energy consume any of my minutes on this earth. . . . What I know for sure is that how you spend your time defines who you are.”
“I know for sure that I don’t want to live a shut-down life — desensitized to feeling and seeing. I want every day to be a fresh start on expanding what is possible.”
