The chart for this New Moon in Taurus has a very clear energetic flow!
Astrologers love degrees because the zodiac is comprised of a 360 degree circle, with each degree having unique characteristics. And, it is the degree of this New Moon that deepens the story of our times.
The New Moon of May 17th occurs at 26 degrees of Taurus, the degree that is also home to the fixed star Algol –also known as the head of Medusa. Though remembered as a monster, Medusa was born a beautiful grandchild of Gaia (Mother Earth) and Ouranos (Uranus).
Medusa grew up to become a priestess of Athena, where she was sworn to celibacy. It was only because of her seduction by Posiedon, (Neptune) that she was cursed by Athena to become remembered as a monster.
Jealous and spiteful of her beauty and love of Poseidon, Athena punished Medusa by turning her beautiful hair into locks of serpents.
Anyone who met Medusa’s gaze became turned to stone (paralyzed by fear) and it was only through death that she was finally released from this dreadful (ancestral) curse. So it is the legend of Medusa that reverberates through the celestial voices for this New Moon.
Taurus is a sign of substance and lasting values, but this month the stars and planets address what must be faced in order to find true beauty. This New Moon invites you to face your demons, and like Perseus, the adventurer who was courageous enough to release Medusa from her misery, to set them free.
Taurus likes to hold on to things, but really, the wisdom of this New Moon lies in letting go. Medusa was intoxicated by illusion and promise, but she also acted on her inspiration. You unleash your Power when you take action to manifest, and your Mastery is developed through doing things in the right way.

We see the ugly face of the world everywhere. Continued war and violence, earthquakes in Nepal, right on the breast of Mt. Everest, known by her people as ‘Mother Goddess of the Universe’.
Surely the mother goddess is waking up to heal her body and all of the life that she has birthed.
Astrology is amazing, because the chart for this New Moon gives specific instructions on both the problems we face, and how to release them. You don’t have to know the details of a chart wheel to understand the energy flow of this New Moon.
(Every astrological chart works in a similar way. Your chart reveals your primal energy patterns and the signs and planets tell you how to face the challenges and open up the promises! )
This New Moon chart is a classic study in Tension and Release. Two groupings of planets form a T-square, which in turn must have an energetic release point. Don’t worry about the names of the planets, just look at the flow.
Athena and Medusa are resurrected through the red triangle of jealousy and control (Pluto opposing Venus)resulting in rebellion (square Uranus) is released through Libra, which births sovereignty in relationship with self.
The blue triangle addresses issues of authority (Mars opposing Saturn). Neptune (Poseidon) challenging the jurisdiction of Saturn and Mars suggests that the (world) situation might appear to be hopeless, but really, people just need to surrender to being of service, and to clean up their acts (Virgo).
The energetic release points of this New Moon lie in the wisdom of Libra and Virgo; purification and refinement (Virgo) of relationship and culture (Libra). Culture is not easy, but it seems even more remote in today’s world.
Culture breeds respect and elegance. Culture had no place for bullying, which has become as commonplace as to be an accepted part of supposedly enlightened coaching. Taurus teaches stability, love, and compassion.
Taurus embraces beauty, and it shows where your life can be verdant and lush.
Wishing you an amazing New Moon experience ! With love and support for your beauty.
