Why Finding the Perfect Partner is an Illusion with Michael Mirdad
Michael Mirdad is a Spiritual Teacher, Leader, Healer and Author that has been teaching for 35 years. He is commonly referred to as a “teacher’s teacher” and a “healer’s healer.” Michael teaches from the basis that you can not be a whole person with just spirituality and not the added work of healing because then it it just theory as he says. "It's not integrated and grounded. The healing work is spiritual work, and spiritual work is healing. Where I come from is basically from the recognition that all that we are physically and emotionally has to be emptied constantly. Healing is about emptying your cup and spirituality is about filling your cup. Whether it is addiction, divorce, abuse. All of that has to be emptied. We do not just 'one time' heal our issues. We steady the course as a maintenance program. If all we do is empty the cup you will never rise to a higher dimensional consciousness if you don't bring spirit in. Whether that is prayer or meditation, for some it is sublime experiences, a direct connection with spirit.
The healing I do is very diverse ranging from ancient civilization, to healing personal trauma, to The Course in Miracles. If something is coming up in your life you have to deal with it. I describe trauma as a lack of God's presence. Even negligence of yourself is trauma. You can't say 'oh I should be over that'. That is not how we would treat a child. We should treat ourself as delicately as we would treat a child."
Michael's is the author of seven books. His latest book is Creating Fulfilling Relationships: Turning Cell Mates Into Soul Mates. Cells as Michael says can be a reference to prison cells or cells of our body.
The most common issue people deal with is relationships and finding your perfect partner is an illusion he say's. " You can't escape yourself by creating a perfect person. There is no perfect person that will fulfill you. Buddha taught that people think they are missing something and they go looking for it outside themselves. You will never have a fulfilling relationship until you have a fulfilling relationship with God first and second is with yourself and then third is with others. If you don't have a relationship with spirit...spirit is the source of love. How could you even love someone if you don't know what love is other than the romantic version. If you don't know what true spiritual love is you have nothing to give anyone. If you don't love yourself or have a healthy relationship with yourself you are not even a safe person to have a relationship with. If you don't know yourself and have a relationship with yourself then you are probably dealing with addiction or co-dependence. The other person doesn't want to be the answer to your problems.
What we want to learn to do is have an internal relationship that is so intact, so healthy and holistic that it wells up inside and our cup runeth over. We have an abundance and we bring it to others. Relationships are not just romantic. We have relationships with everyone...in work, family or acquaintances. People need to learn to have fulfilling relationships which start within ourself and percolates and runs over and we share that with others. It's such a beautiful experience.
The healthy roots of a relationship are like a garden. You can't take a plant and stick it in a pot and call it a garden. My approach is holistic. Intimacy has to come from our connection to love and then that love wells up and becomes so present that we desire to share it with another. It has to be so rooted in the core of who we really are instead of wanting to go and give it to someone or get it from someone. It should be called sharing.
When we are 'in this together' we are in relationship. When we are in a relationship that is 'survival of the fittest' and you have an argument and you have to win that argument and you are just dumping...that's relation-shit. You are just dumping shit on each other. That's not relating. Relating is having communication and camaraderie. When you are dumping you are just abusing or being abused.
So how do we get to that unconditional love relationship. You have to have a relationship with God first, self second and then others. Communion with God...Responsibility with Self... and Connection with others. We are not only healthy people we are having fulfilling relationships. This is our destiny. We must get this right. Whatever you are doing you doing relationships. If you can't get relationships right everything else is hypocrisy. Learning to connect with others is life changing. The ability to know thyself. You become a healthy person if you know how to connect with others. You are a great parent, friend, employee, person, lover.
